The living room could be considered the center of the home, it’s so important. It’s where family gatherings tend to take place and it’s not because the television is usually in there – it’s due to the comfy living room furniture that fill it. If you are in the midst of deciding on whether a sofa or sectional sofa would be best for your house, take a step back and consider the following to help you come to an answer.
1. How big is your space?
A big factor when choosing whether a sofa or sectional is better will depend highly on the space of your living room. A small living room is limited whereas a larger living room has more space for either style of sofa. Sectional sofas are normally the popular choice, but they have one large drawback – they can block off large areas of a room. If you have a smaller place, sticking to a smaller sofa can open your living room up so there is not a lack of space.
2. Are you alright with a limited layout?
An open floor plan gives your living room a very spacious look, and often times a sectional sofa will nicely fill up that space. Other times, the awkward L- shape of a sectional sofa does more than fill up the space – it takes it over. With a shape like that, there are limitations with the angle it is positioned. For people looking for more space and a place to do more than sit, having a smaller set of sofas or loveseats is the way to go. They will open your floorplan and won’t block off certain parts of the room.
3. Will they be used often?
Do you spend a lot of time vegging out on your couches? If yes, then a large sectional couch is calling your name. Many families prefer sectional couches because they can fit the whole family on them comfortably. While small sofas are nice for entertaining and smaller families, they are out of place in a household full of people.
There isn’t a winner when it comes to a sectional or a sofa, just a few things to take into consideration before deciding at your local furniture store. For bigger families and bigger places, we would go with a sectional sofa. For people who want a more of an open floorplan and have less people to accomodate, we suggest individual sofas.
